SFI - Swedish for Immigrants

Helsingfors Arbis offers Swedish courses for different levels. You can enrol onto the course or courses at ilmonet.

You can also choose to participate in one of our SFI programmes, which can be part of your integration plan or can be studied independently.

Make sure you discuss this option with your TE officer (at a Public Employment and Business Services office) in good time. Note: you do not have to be a TE client to enrol.

The programmes are open for all interested but to be accepted, please book a time for an interview at Luckan Integration: e-mail:, address: Georgsgatan 27. You can then participate in an initial language assessment at Arbis. Please enrol for the test on Ilmonet (SFI-Entrance test).

If you are interested in joining one of our SFI programmes, you must register for this initial languages assessment. The written test 19.8 or 2.9 (10:00 a.m. at Dagmarsgatan 3, room 13), consists of: maths, IT skills, reading and listening comprehension, writing and grammar in order to find a programme that suits you. You will also get an individual time for the speaking test on 20-21.8 or 3-4.9 (around 30 min).

SFI Integration 1-3
(0 €/term for students with an integration plan)
SFI Integration is for students with an integration plan from the TE-office. The course (20h/week) includes studying Swedish (at three levels A1, A2 and B1), and also looks at Finnish society and Finnish-Swedish Networks. Career coaching, a language internship and work internship are included.

SFI-reading and writing skills (A190833)

This course (19h/week) is for students who want to improve their basic reading and writing skills in Swedish. The course (19h/week) is designed to match the specific needs and language levels of the students. The course includes career coaching and learning about living and working in Finland.

A190911 SFI - Arbis study blocks
(60 €/term)
Design your own study block of 16h/week. This can consist of language courses or other useful courses. If you are unemployed, please discuss the possibility for doing the course as part time studies with your TE-officer before enrolling on the course.

A190819 Swedish for parents
(0 €/term)
Are you looking for a possibility to both study Swedish for beginners and meet other parents? If you are a parent with a child or children between 10 months – 3 years old, Arbis provides free on-site child care while you study on Tuesdays, 9:30-12:00. For more information: (Swedish for parents) or the Arbis office 09 310 494 94, To be accepted onto the course you have to take part in a Swedish level test on 27.8, 9.30–12.00, in room 13. If you are accepted onto the course, you will be contacted personally.

Get together
Get to know others who study Swedish. Lunch and information about Swedish activities in the Capital region. Register to:

Culture and Coffee (Kultur och kaffe)
People with different language backgrounds gather a few times each semester to listen to a presentation and discuss it. Themes this autumn are multilingualism, Helsinki as a multicultural city and integration stories.
Autumn: 24.9, 22.10 and 19.11
Spring: 11.2, 10.3 and 7.4 (different themes).

The National Language Exam (Provet i Allmän språkexamen/YKI)

The National Language Exam (level B1 and B2) is held at Arbis on 16 Nov. and 4 April (123 €).

You can register 2–30 Sept. and 3–28 Feb.

Language Exam Info – Drop in
In this language exam information session, you have the opportunity to ask questions about the exam. For example, procedures, payment, registration, test situation, content, and what to focus on (approved combinations) to get Finnish citizenship. Course dates: 16.9, 14.10, 11.11, 20.1, 2.3 and 30.3.
