Institutional services as defined by the law on services for the intellectually disabled consist of rehabilitation and comprehensive assistance for individuals in need. Institutional services for the intellectually disabled are provided by the Sofianlehto, Killinmäki and Rinnekoti institutions.
According to decisions by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the City of Helsinki Social Services and Health Care Committee, institutional services will be replaced by individually defined assisted living services in the next few years.
An application for short-term institutional care should be submitted to your local social worker. Reservation lists for short-term care are prepared for six months at a time (November-April and May-October) on the basis of a need survey. Short-term institutional care is currently provided only by Sofianlehto.
