Preparatory training for general upper secondary education
General upper secondary education can be preceded by preparatory training available for foreign-born students.
Preparatory training strengthens their Finnish-language skills and gives them diverse skills for general upper secondary studies. After preparatory training, students apply to general upper secondary schools.
The preparatory course is available for adults or young people of immigrant background and other non-Finnish or non-Swedish speaking young people and adults, who:
- have completed comprehensive school or an equivalent syllabus in Finland or abroad, or who have equivalent knowledge and skills
- are not ready to complete upper secondary education in Finnish or Swedish
- have general upper secondary school as their primary educational goal
- have not completed an upper secondary level qualification or matriculation examination in Finland or an equivalent qualification in another country.
The course lasts for one school year (minimum 25 courses).
The course for young people is organised at Vuosaari and Alppila Upper Secondary Schools. Each with one group. The preparatory course for upper secondary education for adults is held at Helsinki upper secondary school for adults.
