Application to general upper secondary education

Application to general upper secondary education is made with the comprehensive education final certificate or a corresponding certificate in the joint application process online on Studyinfo.fi. Application to courses starting in the autumn is made during the preceding spring season.

Admission to general upper secondary education is determined by the applicant’s grade point average in the following subjects

  • Mother tongue and literature
  • Second national language
  • Foreign languages
  • Religion or ethics
  • History
  • Social studies
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Health education
  • Geography

General upper secondary schools admit applicants in the order of their grade point average. The lowest grade point average for admission in Helsinki is 7.

The general upper secondary schools that specialize in one or more subjects also consider the applicants’ grades in those subjects in addition to the grade point average. Schools can also apply entrance or applicability tests. The points accrued by applicants in those tests can be no more than half of the maximum points.

An applicant can be admitted to general upper secondary education without a comprehensive education final certificate or a corresponding certificate on the condition that he/she possesses adequate qualifications to succeed in the studies.
