One of the central duties of the Helsinki City Rescue Department is to prevent emergencies (Clause PeL 379/2011 42). This includes general emergency prevention in cooperation with other authorities, organizations and residents; safe use of buildings; control performed by authorities; information; and careful handling of fire, hazardous materials and equipment.
The Helsinki City Rescue Department prepares an emergency prevention action plan annually. This plan describes the activities performed to prevent emergencies in the upcoming year.
A fire safety inspector (tel. 09-310 31203) answers resident questions about fire safety on weekdays from 8:30–11:30 and 12:00–15:30.
