| Introduction |
Töölö Sports Hall, previously an exhibition hall, was completed in 1935 and served as a venue for concerts, banquets and sporting events. In preparation for the 1952 Olympics it was expanded on the northern side. The hall was used for the gymnastics, wrestling, boxing and weightlifting events as well as the basketball finals at the Helsinki Olympics. The hall was used for its original purpose until 1975, when it was acquired by the City of Helsinki for the use of the Sports Department and was renamed the Töölö Sports Hall. The multifunction hall is used for a wide variety of training purposes and for competitions in basketball, volleyball, fencing, boxing and gymnastics. The Sports Department also has its offices on the premises. |
