Kruunuvuorenranta

The area presently occupied by the Laajasalo oil harbour will be free of the harbour operations by 2010. A new seaside housing district will be built on the site of the present oil harbour and the adjoining land.
A local plan is being drawn up for the Kruunuvuorenranta area. The site provides an exceptionally good starting point for the planning of a new urban neighbourhood. |

Nearby the densely built oil service area there are diverse land- and seascapes with valuable natural, cultural and historical features. The area has a long and varied shoreline. Views give on to the city centre to the west, the Suomenlinna fortress island and the sea to the south, and the islets of the Helsinki archipelago to the east. Kruunuvuorenranta’s location within the greater seascape of the Kruunuvuorenselkä bay is demanding for the planners. The new district must fit into the historical whole while giving it a twenty-first century edge. |
Kruunuvuorenranta is part of Laajasalo, and as the crow flies it is three kilometres from Helsinki city centre. In the initial building stage a direct traffic route to the city could cross the water, with a possible metro connection being built at a later stage. The drive into the city via Herttoniemi is some ten kilometres long. As the planning moves forward, various alternatives for public transport will be considered.
Kruunuvuorenranta will be planned as a smart seafront district. There will be a variety of living environments in the area, including some high-rise buildings and small houses. Wherever you are in Kruunuvuorenranta, you will sense the presence of the sea and be only a few minutes walk from the shore and other areas of natural landscape. Nature’s greenery will also be present in the built-up areas. The aim is to create a new garden city for the twenty-first century.
The location of Kruunuvuorenranta, its fine landscape and the manor grounds in its vicinity create a framework for developing the neighbourhood into an area that will draw in, from near and far, people who want to enjoy their leisure time. Kruunuvuorenranta will offer pleasure, as well as employment, in boating, fishing, recreation, sports and culture.
The central, park-like, green area of the Stansvik Manor grounds, the islets in the south and most of Kruunuvuori hill will be preserved for recreational use. Development of these areas will be done to fulfil the needs of recreational activities and with proper respect for their natural and cultural value.
The City Planning Committee approved the planning programme for the Kruunuvuorenranta area on 2 June 2005. A draft local plan will be presented to the City Planning Committee in the spring of 2006 and a local plan proposal will be completed in 2007. |
