Air impurities have a detrimental effect on people, nature and materials. The are some naturally occurring impurities in air, but problems concerning gases, compounds and particles are generated as a result of peoples’ activity.

The most significant polluters of the city air are traffic and energy production. Industry, the heating of houses, and pollution coming from beyond Finland’s borders also affect the quality of the air.
