Environmental education provides activities and education for promoting a sustainable lifestyle and future. The environmental education services are intended for all ages. People‘s experiences and own activity are important in environmental education, as well as information. They strengthen the relationship with nature and encourage people to make environmentally responsible choices in their own lives.
Environmental education is based at the Harakka Island nature centre, which is open from the beginning of May to the end of September. Materials on nature and the environment are also produced, and nature hikes, events and seminars are arranged all year round.
Harakka Island is a nature centre maintained by the City of Helsinki Environment Department. The nature centre offers exhibitions, courses, events and guided nature hikes. There is a one-kilometre long nature trail going round the island.
