Metsälä Reception Centre comprises the asylum seeker reception centre, the Metsälä Reception Centre, and the aliens' detention unit, the Helsinki Detention Unit.
Metsälä Reception Centre also provides asylum- and detention-related consultation and information/know-how to the authorities, civic organisations, national bodies, etc.
Metsälä Reception Centre’s activities are confidential, impartial and independent of the processing of asylum applications or detention decisions, their related decision-making process and the possible implementation of decisions.
The State reimburses the City of Helsinki in full for costs arising from the activities of the reception centre and the detention unit.
