The Comprehensive Development Project for Employment
The Comprehensive Development Project for Employment (TYKO) provides advice and guidance to unemployed, Helsinki resident aged 17-25 while they are doing their work experience placement at Helsinki City. The Comprehensive Development Project for Employment provides guidance in planning the future and reaching goals in life. The work experience place provides working experience and knowledge of the working life.
If you are unemployed, resident in Helsinki and aged 17-25, you are entitled to get support during your work experience at the City of Helsinki from the Comprehensive Development Project for Employment. Your first experience of employment could be the start of a path that leads to your dream job, helps you find your own skills and intrests. Even a brief job experience placement can be a merit when you are seeking employment later on.
To look for a work experience placement at the City of Helsinki, you have to be registered as an unemployed jobseeker at the Employment and Economic Development Office (te-toimisto).
You can apply for a work experience placement or internship e.g. in some of the many departments or commercial enterprises of the City of Helsinki. A requirement for receiving a work experience placement is a reference from your local employment office. You are entitled to an unemployment allowance or “labour market subsidy” during your work experience placement.
The administration of employment and work experience placements is coordinated at the Youth Department within the Comprehensive Development Project for Employment. The Comprehensive Development Project for Employment is cooperating with the Helsinki Human Resources Centre and the Employment and Economic Development Offices in Helsinki.

A Merit course gives you tips on seeking a summer job
The Merit Courses that the City of Helsinki Youth Department and HOK-Elanto arrange for 14 - 17-year-olds are intended to improve their chances of getting a summer job and at the same time become familiar with working life during the work experience period. Several courses are arranged each year.
A Merit Course will give you practical help with looking for a job and the certificate you get on completing it will be an excellent reference later as well. The contents of a course include both the theory of working life and practical work either at one of HOK-Elanto’s workplaces or in the Youth Department’s cafeterias.
