Expertise when it comes to museums
As the Provincial Museum, Helsinki City Museum offers professional support and guidance in questions related to cultural heritage in its operational area. Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen, Tuusula, Järvenpää, Kerava, Nurmijärvi and Hyvinkää are all included in the operational area of the Museum. This is the Museum’s duty under the Museums Act and the services are free of charge to customers.
The Regional curator guides municipalities, organisations, foundations and companies in matters related to museum collections and preserving local heritage:
- cataloguing and management of collections
- administrative, financial and grant matters of the Museum
- museum and exhibition plans
- renovation of museum facilities
The Provincial Museum promotes co-operation between museums by organising annual trainings, meetings and events for museums.
Regional museum work is developed in collaboration with the National Board of Antiquities and other Provincial Museums of Finland. Helsinki City Museum has been the region’s Provincial Museum since 1981.
The Provincial Museum encourages all organisations to cherish their past. This helps secure the preservation of rich and versatile cultural heritage.
