The Central Park is at its widest in Haltiala. The vegetation is abundant and unspoilt. Haltiala is the largest unbroken forested area in Helsinki. Birds found in Haltiala include hazel grouse, black woodpecker, and crested tit.
The oldest cultivated fields in Helsinki are in Haltiala. The agricultural landscape extends all the way to the River Vantaa. The Niskala primeval forest has been growing undisturbed by human hand for over half a century. The Niskala arboretum has some rare species of tree, including Siberian fir and snake branch spruce.
