The City of Helsinki owns about 14,600 hectares of coastal waters in its immediate vicinity. Outside its administrative borders Helsinki owns waters in Sipoo (around Kaunissaari, Eestiluoto, Talosaari and Skogsholmen), Kirkkonummi (Lähteelä), Inkoo (Elisaari) and Hanko (Bengtsår). The city also has shares in the Länsi-Onas (Porvoo), Kaunissaari (Sipoo), Elisaari-Kämpe (Inkoo) and Prästö (Hanko) fishery associations.
The city owns lakes and ponds in the Pirttimäki and Karjakaivo outdoor recreation areas as well as water areas in the River Vantaa within its administrative borders. In addition it has shares in jointly owned waters in fishery associations in the Luukki (Espoo), Salmi (Vihti) and Vaakkoi (Vihti) outdoor recreation areas.
