Car owners living in the downtown area can obtain a residential parking permit that entitles them to park in the residential parking spaces within the zone free of charge. Residential parking spaces are always indicated by a specific traffic sign.
Who is eligible for a residential parking permit?
A residential parking permit is available to an individual who is registered in the population register as living in the relevant area, has a driving licence and is entered in the Motor Vehicles Register as an owner or holder of a car, van, four-wheeled moped or motorcycle.
What type of vehicles?
The permit may be issued for a car, van or other vehicle with a total weight not exceeding 4 tonnes, or for a motorcycle or four-wheeled moped. If the vehicle is laid up, the permit is no longer valid.
How many permits are issued?
Only one permit is issued per person. A single permit can include a maximum of two licence plate numbers, but only one of these vehicles may be parked in residential parking spaces at a time. Different persons cannot obtain separate permits for a single vehicle unless it is a so-called shared permit for a shared vehicle.
How to apply?
The permit can be obtained at the Public Works Department Customer Service. When applying for the permit for the first time, the applicant must present a driving licence and registration book (indicating the owner/holder of the vehicle). Before granting a permit, we verify the applicant’s home address from the population register. When applying for a shared permit, all applicants must be entered in the Motor Vehicles Register as an owner or holder of the vehicle. When applying for the permit, driving licences and addresses of all applicants will be checked.
Where to get the permit?
The permit can be obtained at the Public Works Department Customer Service.
How much does it cost?
The permit costs € 10 per month (inc. vat 24 %) and it can be obtained for a maximum of one year at a time. The shared permit costs € 10 per month (inc. vat 24 %) per zone. Payment can be made in cash or by debit card, Visa or Mastercard.
How to use the permit?
When a vehicle is parked in a residential parking space, the permit must be placed inside the windscreen so that the text at the front of the permit is fully visible and easily readable from outside. With motorcycles, a permit label indicating the zone is fixed to a visible location.
How to make changes to the permit?
If the address of the permit holder changes or he/she gets a new car, the permit must be renewed by visiting the Public Works Department Customer Service. The existing permit must be taken to the Customer Service when obtaining the new one.
