 Parking in Helsinki
Listen

Parking in Helsinki is subject to a charge in nearly every street during working days and also on Saturdays in the inner city streets. Parking is allowed only on marked parking spaces.

The streets in Helsinki inner city have been divided into three parking payment zones, the current fees being:

  • Zone 1  4 euro/hour
  • Zone 2  2 euro/hour
  • Zone 3  1 euro/hour

Parking is subject to a charge in all zones from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 19:00. On Saturdays, parking is usually subject to a charge in zone 1. The chargeable parking hours are marked on each ticket machine and parking meter.

Commuter parking (park-and-ride) is a convenient way to avoid trafiic jams in the city centre. The areas reserved for parking are situated near public transportation stops ans stations. You can park your car and continue by metro, bus, tram or commuter train. Parking is usually free of charge. For up-to-date information on commuter parking please visit the Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) web site.

In suburban areas, parking on the sides of the street is free. However, especially in new residential areas, local parking bans restrict parking. Information on a possible ban is posted on the side of the entryways to the area.

Helsinki also hosts a number of private car parks and parking areas.
