The metro automation is likely to be delayed because equipping the old metro trains for automated driving has proven to be more difficult than previously estimated. For the moment being Siemens is executing the project according to the original agreement but HKL and Siemens are also discussing scaling down the project from its original size.  

The alternatives discussed include, e.g. renewing only the access control system, in which case drivers would drive the trains as at present, or a so called semi-automation, in which case the trains would be driven by an automatic system but drivers would still be needed to control the doors and other vehicle functions.
