27.04.11 Kulosaari metro station to open in June
Listen

Kulosaari metro station will open to passengers in June. The final renovation work will be completed by the end of summer 2011.  During the early summer passengers will be instructed to use the emergency exit at the eastern end of the station, which means that the station will not be fully accessible for passengers travelling with pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Kulosaari metro station has been closed for building work since the beginning of last June. As the work is running behind the original schedule, we have decided to open the station while the renovation work is still going on.

The client for the construction work at Kulosaari metro station is HKL and the contractor is Helsinki Public Works Department’s building unit HKR-Rakennuttaja.

The renovation of the metro station involves extending the ticket hall and adding escalators. The roof at platform level will also be extended and the platform surfaces renovated. In addition to improving access, the work also aims to make the station more attractive and improve safety.

HSL will continue to run a replacement bus service on route 16X until the station is reopened. The service runs between Kulosaari metro station and Herttoniemi metro station every 8-15 minutes.
