HKL Infra Service is responsible for Helsinki’s public transport infrastructure. This includes tram and metro track as well as stations and depots.
Infra Service comprises three subunits: property management, the track team and the electrical systems team.
The Building Unit commissions almost all maintenance of metro and tram tracks, and of electrical track equipment, plus some construction from HKL’s Metro and Tram Traffic units. Parts of the track construction work are put out to competitive tender from external contractors.
Infra Service itself is responsible for maintaining ticket machines, communications equip-ment and stops and for property maintenance as well as monitoring technical performance and public order.
A reverse charge mechanism for value added tax will be used in the construction sector from 1 April 2011
