There are more than 80 museums in Helsinki coupled with a large number of art galleries.
Virka Gallery at Helsinki City Hall hosts exhibitions and organizes events, concerts and film screenings. The City of Helsinki Cultural Office regularly organizes exhibitions at its venues.
Helsinki City Museum records and upholds the heritage of the Helsinki area, both tangible and intangible. Visitors to the museum’s seven branches, all with free admission, and Web Museum learn about various aspects of the city’s and its people’s history.

The Finnish National Gallery comprises three museums. Ateneum houses the largest and most significant collection of art in Finland, including the best loved Finnish masterpieces. Ateneum also possesses a fine collection of international art. The Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma organizes exhibitions presenting Finnish and international contemporary art, exhibits from its own collection, and performances at the Kiasma Theatre. The Sinebrychoff Art Museum specializes in old European art.
The National Museum of Finland illustrates Finnish history from prehistoric times to the present.
Design Museum selects and maintains a design collection that sheds light on the history and development of Finnish design.
The Museum of Finnish Architecture collects and distributes information about architecture.
The Seurasaari Open-Air Museum displays the traditional Finnish way of life with cottages, farmsteads and manors from the last four centuries.
Helsinki has more than 70 galleries that feature contemporary Finnish and international art.
Finnish design can be seen at manufacturers’ and vendors’ showrooms and in Design District Helsinki, which features a high concentration of Finnish design in the centre of Helsinki.
