The City of Helsinki Environment Centre has published a data bank on the quiet areas in the city on its website.
The data bank is based on a survey conducted in winter 2007-08, gauging the experiences of Helsinki residents in quiet areas. The Environment Centre has defined the quiet areas based on information from 2,100 respondents. The information has been combined with data on traffic noise and other noise sources, as well as with a general description of the areas.
An area has been classified as quiet if it was named as such more than five times in the survey. There are altogether 34 such areas in Helsinki. The noise level in these areas is less than 50 dB in daytime.
