The amounts of blue-green algae still small
The number of observations of blue-green algae have still increased, but the observed amounts have remained small. During the week beginning on 19 July, sensory observations of blue-green algae were made at several beaches. The amounts were moderate at the beaches in Pihlajasaari and Munkkiniemi and otherwise small. Small amounts of algae species that may be toxic were observed by microscope at the beach in Rastila.
Due to the long-lasting warm weather, there may be small amounts of blue-green algae at all beaches by the sea. However small the amount is at a certain beach, there will be information about it on the noticeboard, we are told by the Environment Centre of the City of Helsinki.
The Environment Centre reminds us that the situation concerning blue-green algae at the beach may change within hours if, for example, it’s blowing or raining.
