CURRICULUM VITAE

Laura Räty assumed the office of Helsinki Deputy Mayor in charge of Social Affairs and Public Health on August 15th, 2011 for a seven-year term. She was elected to office as a member of the National Coalition Party of Finland.

Ms Räty took the helm in her area of responsibility in the City Government with a background in medicine. With a Licentiate of Medicine (Lic. Med.) degree from the University of Helsinki (2006) and pursuing studies towards specialist and doctoral degrees in medicine, she practiced anaesthesiology and intensive care in the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS) prior to her appointment as Helsinki Deputy Mayor. She also worked as a general practitioner.

Ms Räty was a member of Helsinki City Council from 2005 to assuming her current office, serving on the Social Committee to 2008, and a member of Helsinki City Board from 2009. Her municipal positions of trust include membership in the Council of the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities. She has served in various positions of trust in the National Coalition Party.
