| Introduction |
The swimming and sports hall at the Pirkkola Sports Park, which is in Central Park, opened in 1968. The functionalist hall marked a new era in the development of sports parks, which have played a key role in the construction of sports facilities in Helsinki since the 1960s. The Pirkkola Sports Park was built on the basis of plans proposed by Kaija and Heikki Sirén. A sizable renewal of the swimming and sports hall was completed at the end of 2002. The swimming hall is wheelchair accessible. |
