Czar Alexander I changed the status of Helsinki to the capital of the Grand Duchy of Finland on 8 April 1812. Helsinki has since been the scene of battles and celebrations, which objects and images of wars and parties testify in the Head and Heart exhibition at City Hall.
The Administration Centre is the general preparation and executive body of the City, and furthermore it manages legal matters and the office duties of the City Council, City Board, Mayor and Deputy Mayors.
