The heart of the area is formed by design, media and technology businesses and the University of Art and Design, Helsinki. Arts and construction are interrelated: some 1 to 2 % of the building costs are earmarked for artistic co-operation which covers public art in different locations, inside and outside of the buildings.

The artistic heritage of the area is present also in the new housing design – the use of forms, colours and materials is ambitious and open-minded.
